Built with the ecology in mind

ECOLOGICAL CHOICE

When building the chalet, particular care was taken to integrate the construction into the village. After extensive research, the finest natural materials were chosen. The ground floor is built with honeycomb brick with its built in insulation and clad with local stone embellished with symbolic engravings by a master stonemason, and pointed with lime. The massive whole tree trunks chalet is topped with a wood shingle roof. Lamb’s wool, hemp cork and wood fibre provide fantastic natural insulation against cold winter nights and hot summer days.
The solar panels providing energy for the chalet

SUSTAINABLE LIVING

The site has sun all year round, rare in the mountains, and oriented so that the large southwest windows provide passive solar heating. Solar panels produce electricity, hot water and under floor heating, which compliments the wood-burning stoves. The village has it own source of fresh mountain water, we take care to use this efficiently and have provision for rainwater collection. We use eco-friendly cleaning products, low energy light bulbs, buy locally sourced and organic food, and recycle where possible. Green waste is collected, composted and then used to fertilize our own summer vegetable garden.
