Built with the ecology in mind

ECOLOGICAL CHOICE

When building the chalet, particular care was taken to integrate the construction into the village. After extensive research, the finest natural materials were chosen for the construction. The ground floor is built with honeycomb brick with its built-in insulation and clad with local stone that is embellished with symbolic engravings by our master mason and pointed with lime. The massive whole tree trunk chalet is topped with a wood shingle roof. A mixture of lamb’s wool, hemp, cork and wood fibre provide fantastic natural insulation against cold winter nights.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING

The grounds have sun all year round, which is rare in the mountains and is oriented so that the large south and west windows provide passive solar heating. Solar panels produce electricity, hot water and under floor heating, which compliments the wood-burning stoves. The village has its own source of fresh mountain water; we take great care to use this efficiently and have made provision for rainwater collection. We use eco-friendly cleaning products, low energy light bulbs, buy locally sourced and organic food and recycle where possible. Green waste is collected, composted and then used to fertilize our own summer vegetable garden.
